Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf addressed workers and employers in Tehran, highlighting their role in resisting sanctions and economic pressure. He said Iran’s labor force has remained steadfast against attempts by foreign powers to undermine the country’s economy and sovereignty.

The big picture:

Iran has faced worker dissatisfaction in recent years over wages, inflation, and job security.

According to  Qalibaf, the enemies attempted to politicize these grievances and turn them into a broader movement against the government. He insisted that despite these efforts, foreign powers have failed to convert labor demands into political leverage.

What he's saying:

"You can see what this gambler Trump is doing. In Venezuela, he openly and shamelessly declared, ‘We came here to take its oil and minerals.’ One member of Congress even said that Trump acted this way to ensure that, in the future, the oil and resources there would be shared with his economic circle,” said Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf.

He added that such bullying was never part of America’s official agenda.

“At the same time, the Zionist regime continues to commit crimes. We are facing powers that never want a strong, united, and independent Iran,” he said.

“When they failed through military pressure, they turned to economic pressure. They spread despair in society, harmed our production, and put pressure on people’s livelihoods. Yet, as Martyr Soleimani rightly said, if our workers, employers, investors, and people as a whole remain steadfast, we will never be defeated,” Qalibaf added.

What's next:

Qalibaf called for stronger parliamentary support through budgetary decisions and legislation to improve workers’ livelihoods, health, and job stability, positioning labor as central to Iran’s economic resilience.
